Pure L-Glutamine is a “conditionally essential” amino acid. Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in both the plasma (20%) and intracellular muscle tissue pools (60%). Glutamine plays many roles in our body that may directly or indirectly affect immune function, cellular recovery, protein synthesis, and muscle growth. During times of physical stress and exertion, glutamine uptake may exceed synthesis and release from skeletal muscle resulting with depleted reserves. Glutamine’s role in the body is critical to optimum performance. During times of catabolic stress these levels can drop dramatically and the inter-organ flow changes, and it is unable to fuel its many functions, especially those with immune deficiencies.
